You've Built the Kitchen. Now It's Time to Get the Orders.

Starting a restaurant in India today without listing it on Zomato and Swiggy is like opening a shop and never turning on the lights. Together, Zomato and Swiggy serve over 10 million orders every single day across 500+ cities in India. Whether you're running a cloud kitchen in Hyderabad, a café in Pune, or a home kitchen in Lucknow these platforms are your most powerful sales channel, often from day one. But here's where most new restaurant owners get stuck: the registration process.

Wrong documents, incomplete menus, blurry food photos, bank detail errors small mistakes that delay your go-live date by days or even weeks, costing you real revenue.

This guide gives you the complete Zomato and Swiggy registration checklist every document, every step, every pro tip so you can get listed faster and start taking orders without the headache.

The Master Document Checklist: What You Need Before You Apply

Before you even open the registration portal, get these documents ready. Scrambling for them mid-application is the #1 reason for delays.

Mandatory Documents (Non-Negotiable)

1. FSSAI License — The Most Critical Requirement This is non-negotiable. Both Zomato and Swiggy require a valid FSSAI (Food Safety and Standards Authority of India) license before they'll approve your listing. There are no exceptions.

  • Basic Registration: For businesses with annual turnover below ₹12 lakhs

  • State License: For turnover between ₹12 lakhs and ₹20 crores

  • Central License: For larger operations

Apply at foscos.fssai.gov.in if you haven't already. Processing takes 7–30 days, so don't wait.

2. PAN Card Your personal PAN (for proprietorships) or your business PAN (for companies/partnerships). This is used for tax documentation and payment processing.

3. Bank Account Details + Cancelled Cheque Platforms pay you weekly or biweekly via NEFT. You'll need:

  • A cancelled cheque (with your account number and IFSC code clearly visible)

  • Or a bank passbook front page

Make sure the name on the bank account matches the name on your FSSAI license exactly. A mismatch is one of the most common reasons for onboarding delays.

4. Address Proof of Restaurant Any one of the following:

  • Electricity bill (latest, within 3 months)

  • Rental agreement

  • Property ownership documents

  • Shop & Establishment Certificate

5. Menu with Pricing A complete, finalized menu with all item names, descriptions, and prices. Both platforms will review this before approval. Unclear pricing or missing items can send you back to square one.

6. High-Quality Food & Outlet Photos

  • At least 5–8 food photos (bright, clear, appetizing)

  • 1–2 photos of your kitchen or outlet exterior

  • Your logo (if you have one)

Poor-quality images are a silent conversion killer and platforms know it. Low-quality photos can delay approval or result in your listing being deprioritized.

Conditional Documents (Required in Many Cases)

7. GST Registration Certificate Required if your annual turnover exceeds ₹20 lakhs (₹10 lakhs for some special category states). If you're just starting and your turnover is below this threshold, you may not need it immediately but it's worth registering early to avoid complications as you grow.

8. GSTIN Number If GST-registered, you'll need to enter your GSTIN during the registration process. Both platforms are required to collect and report this.

9. Trade License / Shop & Establishment Certificate Some states and cities require this. Check your local municipality's requirements. Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Delhi have stricter requirements than smaller cities.

10. Partnership Deed / Certificate of Incorporation (for businesses with partners or registered as a company)

Pro Tips to Get Approved Faster

These aren't generic tips. These are things that actually cut approval time in practice:

1. Submit documents in the right format. PDFs under 2MB are ideal for most platforms. Avoid Word documents or low-resolution images that are hard to read.

2. Apply on a Monday or Tuesday. Submission volumes are typically lower early in the week, meaning your application gets reviewed faster.

3. Have your menu ready before you apply. Don't apply with a placeholder menu. A complete, priced, categorized menu signals seriousness and speeds up the review process.

4. Register on both platforms simultaneously. The documents required are largely the same. Apply to Zomato and Swiggy at the same time to save 5–10 days.

5. Respond quickly to platform queries. Both platforms may reach out via email or phone for additional information. A same-day response dramatically reduces total approval time.

6. Invest in one good photoshoot before applying. One hour with decent lighting and a steady hand (or a professional photographer) gives you assets you'll use for months on your listing, on social media, and on your packaging.
